She was a lady who was many years ahead of her time with the launch of the Body Shop, long before ethical products became the fashion.  She confounded the critics with the massive expansion of the group, which now has over 2000 stores in 55 countries.  While she has not held a hands on position at the group for some time, she will always be the name and face of Body Shop.

It seems as though Ms Roddick collapsed at her home after a violent headache on Sunday evening, and was subsequently rushed to hospital.  Today, she suffered a major brain haemorrhage at 18:30 BST and subsequently passed away with her family beside her, aged just 64.  Ever the giver and not the taker, she will be remembered by a whole host of charitable groups who benefited from her immense generosity.  While she was happy to use her name and presence to promote a variety of issues, her unbelievable charity to worthy causes was always a private matter.

She had been suffering from hepatitis C for over 30 years, although she only found out that she had the condition 2 years ago.  Ever aware that her days were numbered, she lived life to the full, enjoying each day as it came.  Perhaps it is only now that the true extent of her help and passion towards her causes can really come to the fore.  Ever a private lady, she was very possessive about her family life, which was part of the reason why she took a back step from the business some years ago.

She is sure to be remembered as the first true “green” lady, a title she would have been proud of.
